Pablo Cheesetart @One Utama, Selangor

Address: S130, 2nd Floor, Old Wing, One Utama Shopping Mall, Bandar Utama, 40150 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Business hours: 10am - 10pm daily

The first time I had Pablo cheesetart was exactly 5 years ago in Osaka. The post is here. I was thrilled to know that it's available in Malaysia now. This was one of the reasons I came to 1U for. Aimed to have the big size of cheese tart, not the palm-size mini tart. I was worried my mum would stop me to have it because of its price, RM4X++. But surprisingly she gave me green light to buy.

I decided to have it immediately even though we just had our lunch few minutes ago. The staff was friendly and helpful. Provided me the paper trays and extra napkins.

Other than the cheese tart, I also bought the Mango smoothie.

The staff even gave me two packs of Pablo cookies. Nice! We love both flavours. Matcha flavour has really heavy matcha and milk aroma, not oversweet. It is a good idea if you want to get a box of this for your friend or relatives on special occasion.

The texture of the cheese tart. Had the first bite of it, found out it is slightly different from the one I had in Osaka. The cheese tart is not as firm, and the cheese aroma is not as intense also. Comparing both, this one is more light and 'fruity'. I won't say that it is a bad thing. I will get detest fast if the taste of cheese is too overwhelming. I like both, but the cheese tart in Osaka has crispier tart crust even though I consumed it late in the evening. Oh well, guess it is due to the different climate? I finished 3/4 of it on the spot, my mum had the 1/4. That's how good taste it is. No guilt, only satisfaction.

Penang Nasi Kandar @Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul, Chow Kit, KL

Address: 335, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Chow Kit, 50100 Kuala Lumpur
Business Hours: 7:30am - 8:00pm (Monday - Friday); 7:30am - 7:30pm (Saturday - Sunday)

Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul is adjacent to Restoran Kin Kin, the famous chilli pan mee. Every time I passed by this place after chilli pan mee, never failed to see the long queue outside. Trust it must be good since the people are willing to queue under the hot sun.

Weeks ago, my mum and I had a getaway to KL. Wanted to bring her to Restoran Kin Kin for breakfast, then try out this nasi kandar after chilli pan mee. We reached there quite late, almost 11am. Decided to have the nasi kandar first since the queue was still short, about 8 pax in front of us. Though short, it took 10 minutes too for our turn. There was two ladies in front "tapau" two big bags. Each customer may have different request, and the vendor is patient enough to fulfil each request.

The menu price list is here.

Everyone is patiently waiting for their turn.

The variety of meat and seafood to choose from:

My mum's plate, ayam merah, pickled cucumber and lady fingers. The choice of veges was limited, only these two were available on the day.

My plate. I asked for fried chicken drumstick, pickled cucumber and boiled lady fingers. Requested the vendor to top the rice with curry sauce. The portion was really generous, I could hardly finish all. And the plate of this only cost RM7.50. Cheap and tasty. After emptying this plate, we cancelled our mind to proceed to Restoran Kin Kin.

The queue started to get longer after 11am. Only one person to serve customers and collect payment. Hope the efficiency can be improved.

Kuching Festival Fair 2017 (II) 古晋美食节

Counting down to the last 3 days of Kuching Festival Fair 2017. Last night we revisited to try out the food we missed out. This time we tried Taiwan minced pork rice, Korean pork and smoked duck, and oysters pancake. Reached there around 9:30pm, some stalls we plan to try out were closed earlier.

We found out this Taiwan minced pork rice was not bad. My bro has tried it two times. Big bowl RM7, small bowl RM5. Advise to take the small bowl as you would need to try out other dishes too. My bro greedily bought the big bowl, in the end his stomach was over-bloated.

I wanted to try out the smoked duck meat. We also bought the pork meat, it was quite nice to have it with pickled cucumber. The taste could be better if it is served hot and with dipping sauce.

My bro wanted to have the lamb skewer, RM12 per piece. Average 10 pieces per skewer, a piece RM1.20. One piece even over-burnt.

This is the oyster omelette I took the video in IG. The oysters are real big, slightly bigger than my thumb size and it is juicily fresh (feel like having it raw!). BUT, the average waiting time is 45 minutes. My turn took about an hour.

We got that pandan chickent from stall 2xx (forgot the number). The vendor kept pestering us to get one set pack at RM10. It's rather small size, we asked for 3 pcs at RM4 instead. Turned out it's a wise decision because we overate. Nevertheless the taste of pandan chicken was nice actually.

The RM12 lamb skewer.

The oyster omelette that took me an hour. Hmmm.... anyhow, the taste worths the wait. The only one that you won't regret to get (if you don't mind the waiting time). I reheat it for brunch, the taste was still good.

Good news! It's a bargain to get Shandy 4 cans at RM6 here. Bad news! Please be informed, you must consume it before the expiry date.

I was planning to get the peanut ice cream. When we got there, the stalls selling peanut ice cream sold out earlier than expected. Heart broken... started to crave for yogurt ice cream now. Slurp...

Kuching Festival Fair 2017 (I) 古晋美食节

Kuching Festival has came back again on 28th July, and too bad it is going to end on 20th August. Have you visited yet? I went there last week with my mum as she never been to Kuching food fair. It was raining earlier, luckily the rain stopped after 5 something. We were able to go without umbrella. We arrived there at 6:30pm. The crowd already started to build up.

This year a lot of disputes on the food variety too. Majority of the menus is from Taiwan, such as oyster mee sua 阿宗面线, squid or chicken wing with rice content 鱿鱼/鸡翅包饭, potato cheese, deep-fried chicken chop and so on. Well, Taiwan is undeniably a great source of ideas when comes to creative menus.

The main entrance to Kuching Festival Fair. I'll not provide description of the pictures below, please just enjoy the pictures.

Total damage, below RM70 this time. Bought a pack of the longest french fries RM12, squid with rice RM15 (free one chicken wing with rice and one stick of squid arms),  4 sticks of yaki-toki (RM5 - 6 per stick),  3 cans of carbonated drinks, and coconut ice cream. My verdict, don't get the RM15 squid with rice. The taste wasn't great, too hard to chew and overpriced too. Actually nothing is cheap here. But the yaki-tori was good. And I was so tempted to get the oyster pancake too! The size of oyster is bigger than my thumb. Looks so juicy, many queued up for it.

This peanut coconut ice cream is my favourite. There are 2 or 3 stalls selling peanut coconut ice cream, taste equally the same. They spread the ground peanut on popiah skin, 3 small scoops of coconut ice cream, then wrap. Taste creamy and delicious, seriously must try.

Li Garden 梨苑酒家 @Hock Lee Centre, Kuching

Address: Hock Lee Centre, L2-11, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, 93450 Kuching, Sarawak
Business Hours: Monday - Sunday 11:30am - 2pm, 6pm - 10pm

Last April, I made a reservation at Li Garden to host my future sister-in-law's family. I asked for an individual room for better privacy since it's important event to meet the parents. The manager told me I need to spend at least RM300 for the room. Hmm, first thought came into my mind, do I look like a cheapskate?

The manager gave me these menus to choose from, rate starts from RM368 - RM1099. I didn't follow the exact dishes. Decided to go for a la carte, we have Hot and Cold Deluxe as starter. Against shark fins, we have Sea Cucumber Soup. Peking Duck is a must as it's their signature dish. Then I also get Crispy Pork Leg as it is one of my dad's favourites. Teo Chew Style Steamed Grouper, this dish will have to order earlier so that they can get the freshest fish for you. My parents are very picky with fish, they forbid frozen fish. Next, we have Braised Sea Cucumber with Broccoli and Shredded Chicken Noodle. After all these dishes, still feeling half full. I ordered an extra dish, Salted Egg and Sweet & Sour Prawns.

The starter, Hot and Cold Deluxe

Braised Sea Cucumber with Broccoli

Peking Duck, served with the pancakes, spring onion, cucumber and sweet bean sauce. They loved it, the portion was not really sufficient to share with 10 pax.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Grouper. The broth was appetizing, luckily with the help of the manager, we could have the fresh grouper.

Crispy Pork Leg 德国猪手. This dish is nice too, every one forked the crispy pork skin.

Salted Egg and Sweet & Sour Prawns. This dish is the most disappointing dish. The prawns were not fresh, the texture was quite slimy. Even though the prawns were not fresh, but the seasoning was quite tasty.

I didn't take snapshot the Sea Cucumber Soup and Shredded Chicken Noodle. Oh yeah, we also have the seasonal fruit platter. The billed amount is quite fair, RM697.80 for 10 pax.

Li Garden is suitable venue to host for birthday party for elderly or full moon occasions. Advise to call them to check on availability (Tel: 082-340 785), just in case they are full house for special occasion.
